Remove an image background

Cut the subject out of a photo with an on-device AI model — the sites that charge credits for this send your photo to a server; pixelpix does it locally, free, in about a second.

Choose a transparent background or any solid colour, feather the edge, and export as PNG (transparency preserved) or any other format.

Free, on-device background removal

The sites that charge credits for this send your photo to a server; pixelpix runs an on-device AI model (u2netp) that cuts the subject out in about a second, free. Choose a transparent background or any solid colour, feather the edge, and export as PNG to keep the transparency.

Need to do many? Batch mode has a “remove backgrounds” toggle that runs the same model over every image in one pass.

How it works

  1. Drop a photo and open Cut out.
  2. Run the cutout, then pick a background and edge feather.
  3. Apply and download the PNG.

Like every pixelpix tool, this runs 100% in your browser: your file is never uploaded to a server, never leaves your device, and works even offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is the background remover really free with no watermark?
Yes. It runs entirely on your device, so there are no per-image credits and no watermark.
What about fine details like hair?
The model is good but not perfect on wispy edges — that is true of every automatic cutout. Feathering helps blend the result.
What format should I export?
PNG, to preserve transparency. JPEG cannot hold an alpha channel, so those exports auto-flip to PNG.
