Frequently asked questions
Can GIFs have transparent backgrounds?
Yes. GIF supports on/off transparency (one fully clear colour), which is exactly what this tool produces. It is not partial see-through like PNG, but it is perfect for solid backgrounds.
My background is not perfectly one colour — will it still work?
The tolerance dial catches near-matches, and edge feathering cleans up anti-aliased outlines. Very noisy backgrounds are harder, as with any colour-key tool.
What if I need soft, partial transparency?
GIF cannot store partial transparency. For that, convert to a format that can, or use the image tools on a still.
